-Frank was put in the basement of Davids house instead of having to go to the jail. This shows how the power of the Haydens was so strong that even when Frank commited a crime he got special treatment.Frank was also warrened by Wes that Wes/sherif knew that Frank had atcked indian girls.
Quotes-
-"We are as close as Mercer County comes to aristocracy." p126- shows how the Haydens have power
-"We had a house keeper who lived with us during the week. Her name was Marie Little Soldier, and she was a Hunkpapa Sioux." p24- shows what jobs Native Americans usually had
-"Fort Warren Indian Reservation, the rockiest,sandiest, least arable parcel of land in the region." p 15- shows how the Native Amricans are given the crapy land where the Haydens have a nice ranch
-"Nevertheless, he believed Indians, whith only a few exeptions, were ignorant,lazy,superstitious, and irresponsible.'' .p34- this shows how Wes has racist feelings toward Native Americans
-"During the war Ronnie was in the infantry." p26-this shows how a Native american from Mercer County who fought in the war did not get the recognition that the Frank Hayden got.
-"He didn't need to call for silence.That wasn't his way. He simply stood there,his feet planted wide,his hands on his hips. p 37- this shows that the grandpa had so much power that all h had to do to get the attention of a growed was stand up and wait for them to quiet down.
-"Even on a lesser charge your going to have a hell of a time getting a conviction. In this town. Whith your pop. With who's going to be testifying against him." p144- this shows the power that the grandpa has. Len is refering to Native Americans when he talks about whoes going to be testifying against him. This shows how the word of a Native American doesn't mean as much as a Hayden or a caucasian person.
-"Thers not a community in the counrty that wouldn't be proud to have him." p38
Summary-
The power, both ecomically and socially is so large, the family is able to do mostly anything within the town, or at least think that they can.

-Thanks Brittany, I was thinking it would be best if we as a group just took it paragraph by paragraph, basically i can do the intro, conclusion, and one or two paragraphs on whatever sticks out as important, you guys can work on the middle part and we can adjust the paper accordingly. Write what you think is important to our paper, and i will tie it all together on Monday, be sure to have it done by 1st hour and on the wiki on Monday so i can put it all together.
