Hero quotes!!!!

These are the notes for Role (Hero and Villain) for our paper click this link: Heroes

Wes Hayden=Hero

  • Wes is the hero because he turns in his own brother.  He stands up for the Native American people and upholds justice. He does what most people would have a hard time doing, turning over their family. It might have been hard to turn in his brother, it was the right thing he did.
  •  " David, I believe that in this world people must pay for their crimes. It doesn't matter who you are or who you relations are; if you do wrong, you pay. I believe that. I have to" (156). Wes tells David this to tell him what he thinks right and wrong are. I think it is good lesson that Wes is teaching his son about doing the right thing.

    Frank Hayden=Villian

    • "The reason, Wesley, the reason Marie didn't want to be examined by Frank is that he--he has... is that your brother has molested Indian girls," said Gail (Watson 45)Frank is the villian because he molested the Indian girl, Marie and his family never knew about it until Wes turned him in.  It is peoples' choices to become a villian or not. They always try to change to become better, like a hero instead.

    Frank Hayden=Hero

    • Frank, the war hero, and his conflict with David's dad because he is the "better" son. He was stationed at an army field hospital on a pacific island. Carried three wounded soldiers to safety. Got much recognition from the town. (Watson 36). It is weird that Frank is the hero at the beginning of the story, but later on in the story he changes he ways. He becomes a villian. (I think we should talk about how you can go from a hero to a villian in a matter of time.) He changes he way when he decides to rape Indian girls but before he was a war hero (something to be proud of)
    • "This man could have gone anywhere, with his war record he could be practicing in Billings.  In Denver.  In Los Angeles.  There's not a community in the country that wouldn't be proud to have him.  But he came back to us. My son. Came back to us." --Julian (Watson 38) Julian giving a speech about Frank in the beginning at the homecoming to the war.
    • "He was a genuine war hero, complete with decorations and commendations." (Waston 36)"He carried--carried, just like in the movies--three wounded soldiers from the battlefield to safety." (Watson 36). These two quotes are explaining what Frank did to receive his recognition.
    • The BEST FRIEND: sweet and safe, he never lets anyone down. He's kind, responsible, decent, a regular Mr. Nice Guy.  This man doesn't enjoy confrontation and can sometimes be unassertive because he doesn't want to hurt anyone's feelings. But he'll always be there.

    Julian thinks Wes=Villian

  •  David's dad, the sheriff, Wes Hayden has to arrest Frank, his own brother, for the murder. Wes should be the hero even though he has to turn in his own brother. It was the right thing for Wes to do and he puts Frank in his basement. He does that because he doesn't want Frank to be embarrassed for what he did. "I wanted to save Frank some embarassment. I don't know how long that's going to be possible" (Watson 116). If his family found out what he did, they would be ashamed of him.
    • "My father had tried to find a way to bring his brother to justice for his crimes.” (Watson 109)

  •   Julian doesn't like the fact that Wes turns in his own brother. He thinks he is betraying his own family. Wes says:"This isn't about family, this is a legal matter" (Watson 116).
  • ·  "You--(Watson 117) this quote shows how little Julian respects Wes as the sheriff.
  • ·  "ever since Frank came home in a uniform and you stayed here, you've been jealous" (Watson 119) This is Julian saying how he thinks Wes is doing this because he is jealous of Frank.  He is assuming that Frank didn't do anything worth punishing.
  • "What the hell's so big you have to take an Indian's side and run your brother in?" (Watson 120) this shows once again how Julian thinks that Wes is being unfaithful.
"Ever since the war, ever since Frank came home, you've been jealous" Grandpa says to Wes. He knew that he was jealous of his brother from being the war hero.

  • Research- Archetypal Hero

http://www.tamicowden.com/archetypes.htm  Julian could be a devil/tyrant. Some Julian thinks that Wes is the traitior. Do you think that Frank is the Devil because he thinks that Indians are below him? Do you think that Wes is the Chief?

The TRAITOR: the double agent, he betrays those who trust him most.   No one suspects the evil that lurks in his heart.  Despite supportive smiles and sympathetic ears, he plots the destruction of his friends.   Never turn your back on him -- he means you harm.

The Tyrant: the bullying despot, he wants power at any price.  He ruthlessly conquers all he surveys, crushing his enemies beneath his feet. People are but pawns to him, and he holds all the power pieces.  Hesitate before getting in this man’s way – he’ll think nothing of destroying you.

A Chief is a dynamic leader, he has time for nothing but work( being a sheriff and taking care of his family) He might have been born to lead, or perhaps he conquered his way to the top, but either way, he’s tough, decisive, goal-oriented.  That means he is also a bit overbearing and inflexible.

Quotes-

A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles. -Christopher Reeves

A boy doesn't have to go to war to be a hero; he can say he doesn't like pie when he sees there isn't enough to go around” -Edgar Watson Howe

Many people think that Frank should go free. Why is it hard to be the hero?

It is hard to be a hero because people expect you to be perfect and not have any flaws at all. People look up to heroes and they don't want to be  Most of time, the hero's identity is hidden so that people don't find out their true identity. There could be alot of jealous involved also from other heroes or people that want to be considered a hero. Another reason is people expect a lot from heroes, they cannot please everyone. Heroes just have to remember they do there best all the time.

How should we organize the paper? We should probually start the paper, i mean we have quite a bit of info.

Hero by Mariah Carey

There's a hero If you look inside your heart You don't have to be afraid Of what you are There's an answer If you reach into your soul And the sorrow that you know Will melt away

And then a hero comes along With the strength to carry on And you cast your fears aside And you know you can survive So when you feel like hope is gone Look inside you and be strong And you'll finally see the truth That a hero lies in you

It's a long road When you face the world alone No one reaches out a hand For you to hold You can find love If you search within yourself And the emptiness you felt Will disappear

And then a hero comes along With the strength to carry on And you cast your fears aside And you know you can survive So when you feel like hope is gone Look inside you and be strong And you'll finally see the truth That a hero lies in you

Lord knows Dreams are hard to follow But don't let anyone Tear them away Hold on There will be tomorrow In time You'll find the way

And then a hero comes along With the strength to carry on And you cast your fears aside And you know you can survive So when you feel like hope is gone Look inside you and be strong And you'll finally see the truth That a hero lies in you

Hero by Enrique Iglesias
(Whispered) Let me be your hero

Would you dance if I asked you to dance?

Would you run and never look back

Would you cry if you saw me crying

Would you save my soul tonight?

Would you tremble if I touched your lips?

Would you laugh oh please tell me these

Now would you die for the one you love?

Hold me in your arms tonight?

(Chorus)

I can be you hero baby

I can kiss away the pain

I will stand by you forever

You can take my breath away

Would you swear that you'll always be mine?

Would you lie would you run away

Am I in to deep?

Have I lost my mind?

I don't care you're here tonight

Chorus

I just want to hold you (2x)

Am I in too deep?

Have I lost my mind?

Well I don't care you're here tonight

Chorus (2x)

You can take my breath my breath away

I can be your hero
